Introducing the Mayor of Barrow-in-Furness.

Mayor of Barrow - 2018-2019 - Councillor Bill McEwan

Bill was elected as Mayor for the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness on Tuesday, 15th May, 2018.

Bill is married to Judith and has 6 children.  He left school at 16 in Scotland and became an apprentice sheet metal worker (served for 5 years).  Bill left Scotland as a young man to work in Barrow's shipyard (then Vickers) on the Polaris Programme of Nuclear Submarines.  After being made redundant at the shipyard, Bill contracted around the country and also abroad, including Holland, Germany and the Middle East.

Now retired Bill is involved with local politics and has been for some years.  He is both a Borough and County Councillor for the ward of Ormsgill.  He is Vice Chairman of the Barrow Local Committee and is also Chair of Governors at Ormsgill Primary School.

Being elected as Mayor is a great honor for Bill and his family and in this role Bill will do all he can for the residents of the Borough where possible.
