Covid-19 update: Council meeting to be held virtually for the first time

A MEETING of Barrow Borough Council’s Executive Committee will be held virtually for the first time this Wednesday, June 3.

Special provision has been made to allow local authority meetings to take place digitally to meet rules on lockdown and social distancing following the coronavirus pandemic.

Elected members and officers will join the meeting at 2pm via video conferencing software Zoom to discuss items on the agenda.

The proceedings will also be live streamed via YouTube to allow members of the public and press to view discussions as they take place.

Details of the meeting and how to view on the day are available here: https://democracy.barrowbc.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=136&MId=438

Councillor Ann Thomson, Barrow Borough Council leader, said: “This will be our first committee meeting to be held virtually.

“Finding a way to be able to continue to hold meetings - and for them to be accessible by the public and the press - during the lockdown is an essential part of democracy and also our commitment to transparency.

“It will offer people who perhaps would never have attended a council meeting in person the chance to see the workings of a local authority first hand. Anyone is welcome to view online from 2pm.”
