Barrow Borough Council does not have control over the operation of private car parks; it is up to the operator to ensure they comply with requirements on Health and Safety, etc. as well as setting their own prices.
There is a pay and display car park at Barrow railway station, but at present all other private car parks are free. Many private car parks are for the use of customers only and some make use of wheel clamping. Most private car parks e.g. local supermarket car parks, impose a time limit and Penalty Notices are issued on their behalf by private enforcement companies.
The onus is on the driver of a vehicle to check the restrictions of where they are parked and adhere to those restrictions.
