BUSINESSES in Barrow’s town centre are to be asked to vote on a Business Improvement District for the area over the next five years.
A proposal has been put forward by Barrow Bid Company Ltd covering the 2021 to 2026 period.
Voting will take place entirely by post with information and ballot papers sent to those eligible from Thursday, May 27, 2021.
The papers must be returned no later than 5pm on Thursday, June 24 - the day of the ballot. Votes will be counted the following day, Friday, June 25, with the result subsequently published on the council’s website.
Only non-domestic ratepayers registered on Barrow Borough Council’s database for properties within the proposed area will be able to take part. They must also have a rateable value of £4,000 or more.
A BID ballot is successful if a majority of those voting are in favour. However, those voting in favour must also represent a majority of the aggregate rateable value of the hereditaments (or properties) voting.
