A revised programme of street cleansing services has been introduced across the borough to keep communities clean and tidy for all residents.

Following Barrow Borough Council’s decision to bring waste services back in house in October 2022, work has been underway to put together new street cleansing schedules to help tackle litter and to benefit the whole area.

From March 20, the move will include the reinstatement of a dedicated street cleaner for Dalton and Askam as part of the schedule which is designed to ensure the area has full coverage.

Councillor Lee Roberts, the Deputy Leader of Barrow Borough Council, said: “Regular refuse collections are in place across the borough to help ensure people can take pride in the areas in which they live.

“In addition, we have reinstated the role of a dedicated street cleaner for Dalton and Askam. We know this was incredibly popular, well-received and appreciated by the whole community in the past and it’s something we’re pleased to be able to put back in place now.

“This borough is a fantastic place in which to live and work and it’s right that we should all be proud of it. We would encourage everyone to dispose of litter in the correct way, recycle properly and to use our bulky waste collection for larger items to keep Barrow as clean and tidy as it can be.”
