Paying your rent

The easiest and most convenient way of paying rent and water rates is by direct debit, with payment being taken directly from your bank account. You can choose any date on a monthly basis or every two or four weeks to pay.

If you pay your water rates by direct debit, £5 per year will be credited to your rent account.

To set up a direct debit, download and return a Direct Debit form or ring us on (01229) 876478; email housing@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk

When is my rent due?

Rent is due weekly and is payable in 48 weekly instalments. It is your legal responsibility to ensure that your rent is paid on time.

The four non-collectable rent weeks for 2024/25 are:

  • 1 April 2024
  • 26 August 2024
  • 23 December 2024
  • 31 March 2025

Please note: There are 53 weeks in this financial year and rent will be collected over 49 weeks.

However, if your account is in arrears, you must still make payment as agreed.
