Examination of Local Plan
The Council submitted its Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate on 2nd February 2018.
The Public hearing sessions were held in June 2018.
Inspectors Report- March 2019
The Council have now received the Inspectors Report and the final schedule of main modifications. A meeting of Full Council has been provisionally set for 4th June 2019 for the formal adoption of the Local Plan.
On receipt of the Inspectors Report the examination is formally closed.

Paper copies of the Inspectors Report can be viewed at libraries in the borough, Barrow Town Hall and Dalton Town Hall during opening hours.
The Inspector
The planning inspector appointed by the Secretary of State to independently examine the Local Plan is Karen Ridge LLB (Hons) MTPL.
Examination
All documentation relating to the Examination can be found in the Examination Library and will be updated as necessary.

Hearings – The Hearing sessions are now closed, they were held between Tuesday 5th June and Tuesday 26th June. We are currently preparing the main modifications and we will be consulting on these in due course.

Programme Officer
The Council has appointed Miss Carolyn Woodend as Programme Officer for the Examination, to manage the administration of the examination on behalf of the appointed Inspector and act as the liaison between the Inspector and representatives of the Council. Her contact details are:

20th March 2019
Inspectors Report received. The Council will formally adopt the Local Plan in June 2019.
6th September 2018
Six week Consultation on Main Modifications resulting from hearing sessions which are required to make the Plan sound.
5th July 2018
The Local Plan Examination Hearings concluded on Tuesday 26th June however the Examination remains open until the Inspector has submitted her report to the council.
7th June 2018
The Local Plan Examination began on Tuesday 5th June and now underway. The Council issued an Opening Statement at the first hearing which you can download.
1st June 2018
The Council has now responded to the query from the Inspector as detailed below. This response has now been added to the Examination Library or can be viewed by downloading the Inspector's Query Council Response (01/06) document.
29th May 2018
The Inspector has sent a query to the Council via the Programme Officer, details of the Inspector's Query Council Response (29/05) can be downloaded. A formal response from the Council will be available in due course. The Council have also added some further documents to the Examination Library which are all detailed in the Local Plan Additional Documents List.
24th May 2018
The Inspector has now finalised the timetable for the Examination hearings which can be found in the Examination Library, along with the Hearing Statements which have also been added.
17th April 2018
The Council has given notice that the Local Plan hearings will start on Tuesday 5th June 2018 at 10 am in Barrow Town Hall.
13th April 2018
The Inspector has produced an initial timetable, guidance notes and Matters, Issues and Questions document which are available in the Examination Library.

The examination process is now in the early stages. The hearings, when all matters and issues will be discussed, are likely to start in June. However details and dates will be confirmed in due course.
