Fly-Tipping

What is Fly-tipping?

We all generate waste either at home or at work.  The majority of householders and businesses dispose of this waste in a proper and legal manner, however, there are people who do not.  Instead, they choose to tip waste in back streets, in the countryside or on other people's land.  This is Fly-tipping.

Fly-tipping in the Borough Of Barrow-in-Furness

Barrow-in-Furness Borough Council receives a number of reports of fly-tipping every week.  The nature of these reports vary from builder's rubble dumped in a country lane, to household furniture abandoned in back streets.

The consequences of fly-tipping in the Borough affect all residents because:

Investigating and cleaning up fly-tipping has to be paid for - the costs are covered by residents through the Council Tax

It can cause serious pollution of the environment and can be harmful to human health

It lowers the standard of the local environment and can reduce pride in the local community.
