Homes for Ukraine scheme

We are ready to do all we can to help refugees fleeing Ukraine.

Currently advice and support is available from Cumbria County Council and central Government.

Refugees in Cumbria

Cumbria County Council is the lead authority for refugee resettlement in Cumbria.

Cumbria County Council will be working with partners, including district councils, like us, to provide support to refugees and their sponsors.

Homes for Ukraine Scheme

Homes for Ukraine is a government led scheme, administered by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). If you want to offer a home to people fleeing Ukraine, you can become a ‘sponsor’ as part of the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

The scheme will match people, charities, businesses and community groups to Ukrainians who do not have family ties to the UK.

Anyone in the UK with a spare room or home can offer a home, as long as:

- you can offer accommodation for at least 6 months

- if you’re not a British citizen, you have leave to remain in the UK for at least 6 months

Ukrainian people arriving under the scheme will be able to live and work in the UK for up to three years and access healthcare, benefits, education, and English language tuition.
