Universal Credit

Universal Credit is part of the Governments Welfare reform, and was introduced to the Barrow area from December 2018. Most claimants wishing to make a new claim to any working age benefits will claim Universal Credit

Universal Credit will replace six existing working age benefits :

  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income related Employment Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit

  • Housing Benefit

There are however some exceptions where the claimant will still be required to make a claim for Housing Benefit:

Any claimant falling into the above 2 groups will still be required to make a claim for Housing Benefit to help with Housing costs.
