WITH a second national lockdown in place from Thursday, November 5, access to some services and facilities operated by Barrow Borough Council has changed.

These changes are temporary until such time as the lockdown restrictions are lifted by government.

In the meantime, please see our updated information below.

Council Buildings, Places and Events

The following venues and places are closed temporarily:

  • Barrow Town Hall – closed to the public
  • The Forum
  • The Dock Museum
  • Barrow Indoor Market – essential traders remain open with access via the Meat Hall. Other traders are carrying out home deliveries or trading online
  • Life Leisure Centre

    Barrow Park, Vickerstown Park, Hindpool Urban Park are open, but if you use these for your daily exercise please use social distancing guidelines.

    Homelessness advice and assistance

    If you are homeless, or think you may be at risk of becoming homeless in the next 56 days, please contact our Homelessness Team as soon as possible for advice and assistance:

    Car parking

    Car parks operated by Barrow Borough Council are open for those making essential journeys.

    Motorists are advised to pay for parking via the RingGo app which is available to download.

    Money and Benefits

    Council Tax : We appreciate that this is a difficult time for many of our residents and that the continued COVID-19 pandemic is having a significant impact on the economy.

    Council Tax pays for essential services that are delivered to all residents in the borough, so it is really important that if your circumstances have not changed that you continue to pay what you should.

    If you are struggling to pay your council tax, there is support available and the council may be able help you if you have been affected. Please email counciltax@barrowbc.gov.uk or phone 01229 404242.

    Support for businesses

    Outline guidance has been received from government around two national grant schemes to support businesses through the lockdown restrictions in place between November 5 and December 2.

    Work is ongoing to implement these schemes so that support can reach eligible businesses across the borough as soon possible.

    Crematorium and Cemeteries

    In line with government guidance, funerals can be attended by a maximum of 30 people, and it is advised that only close friends and family attend.

    Linked ceremonial events such as stone settings and ash scatterings can also continue with up to 15 people in attendance.

    It is advised that social distancing is maintained between people who do not live together or share a support bubble.

    The cemetery office is closed to visitors so please call in the first instance.

    Our cemetery grounds remain open.

    Household waste and recycling collections

    There are no plans to change the collection of recycling or refuse in the borough.
